Experience
Dr. Stroup’s work with Data
for Solutions, Inc. has impacted standards for air pollution
regulation in the United States and health policy internationally.
She has taught training courses recently in Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco,
Romania, and Suriname.
Before establishing Data for
Solutions, Inc., Dr. Stroup served the Public Health Service at the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for 20 years.
During this time, she led the CDC’s work in health promotion and
became the first permanent director of the Coordinating Center for
Health Promotion bringing together the research and programs in
chronic disease, health promotion, birth defects, and genomics. In
her early work at CDC, Dr. Stroup received numerous scientific
awards for bringing cutting-edge statistical methods to practice in
public health and epidemiology.
Dr. Stroup is a Fellow of
the American Statistical Society, an elected member of the American
Epidemiology Society, and an honorary member of the Epidemic
Intelligence Service (the first woman ever so honored). She holds a
masters’ degree in Community Medicine from the University of
Cambridge in England and a masters’ and doctorate in mathematical
statistics from Princeton University . She serves as adjunct faculty
in the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University .
Dr. Stroup has advised
numerous health agencies both in the United States and
Internationally (see
credentials). Recently, she has
provided research assistance to the American Cancer Society, the
Electric Power Research Institute, and numerous academic
institutions.
Dr. Stroup’s research spans
areas of statistical methods for surveillance, meta-analysis,
chronic disease epidemiology, and social determinants of health. She
has authored more than 130 peer-reviewed publications and several
books; she is the recipient of the statistical science award from
the American Public Health Association and has been a member of the
Senior Biomedical Research Service.
